Second Phase of Azad Kashmir Elections Begins
Muzaffarabad: Polling has started in the second phase of the Azad Kashmir General Elections 2026, with voters casting their ballots in several constituencies across the Muzaffarabad Division and refugee seats.
According to election officials, polling opened at 8:00 AM and is continuing under strict security arrangements.
Polling Across Multiple Constituencies
The Election Commission stated that voting is taking place in eight constituencies of the Muzaffarabad Division along with 12 refugee seats.
Polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-1 was postponed due to landslides and heavy rainfall, while elections continue normally in the remaining constituencies.
More than 400,000 registered voters are expected to participate during this phase.
Security Tightened in Muzaffarabad
Authorities have deployed approximately 18,000 security personnel, including police and Rangers, to ensure peaceful voting.
The constituencies of LA-5 Khaora and LA-3 Lajra have been declared highly sensitive because of security concerns.
Protests Raise Tension
Internet services were suspended in parts of Muzaffarabad following protests linked to supporters of a banned organization.
Road blockades and demonstrations continued after recent clashes between protesters and police. Officials are monitoring the situation while election activities proceed under enhanced security.
Election Commission Urges Public Participation
Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd.) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal confirmed that election materials had reached polling stations and polling staff were deployed safely.
He encouraged citizens to exercise their democratic right and vote for capable leadership to help shape the region’s future.

Officials say all necessary arrangements have been made to maintain transparency, security, and smooth polling throughout the voting process.
The Election Commission has urged voters to remain peaceful and cooperate with polling staff.
